An Officer's Winter
(2027)(The fifth book in the Life of William Culpepper series)
A novel by Anthony Morland
Corunna, January 1809. The army is in the boats. Someone has to hold the ridge until dark.
Colonel William Culpepper has spent three and a half years on the beach. Shot through the chest in India, he came home to an estate in Kent, a wife, and a small son. The wound closed. The half pay never stopped.
Then General Sir John Moore rides up the drive with a letter from Sir Arthur Wellesley, and the letter says it is time to come off the beach.
It takes William to Portugal in a rifleman's green jacket, then into Spain with Moore's army, and finally onto a hillside above Corunna with the French coming on and the boats waiting below.
An Officer's Winter is the fifth novel in The Life of William Culpepper, a Napoleonic military saga for readers of Bernard Cornwell and Patrick O'Brian.
Genre: Historical
