The Oldburys of Normanhurst were struggling to maintain their family estate, but problems beset them on all sides. Clive J. Gurney, a man with neither background nor local connections, was buying up the neighbouring lands. He and young Debbie had clashed from the start - she described him as The Enemy and blamed him for all her troubles. But The Enemy had not fought his way to the top for nothing.
