The Witness for the Defence

Lovers Stella Derrick and Dick Hazelwood are kept apart by their financially ambitious parents. Stella's father sends her to India and virtually forces her to marry the wealthy Captain Ballantyne. But Ballantyne turns out to be a drunken brute, and one day during a struggle in the Indian forest, Stella accidentally shoots him. She is put on trial, but the testimony of one of her former suitors gets her off. Stella returns to England, where Dick has become very successful. Still, their families are opposed to their union. But will they find out the truth about Ballantyne?
