After burning my career to the ground, I fled my home on the South Carolina coast for a job at a petting zoo in Moose Ridge, Maine. I’d hoped to make some new friends in New England, but so far, my only besties are an opinionated moose named Clarise and a music-obsessed feline named Dolly Purrton.
Then, on my first day, a zoo guest turns up face-down in a livestock pen, and Gerald the goat is accused of murder.
The owner is ready to send Gerald straight to the slaughterhouse. My co-workers think I’ve lost my mind when I agree to help Dolly and Clarise make sure the goat gets a fair trial. My brother thinks I should forget Maine and come home.
But returning to my old life isn’t an option, and I’m not ready to give up on building a new one in Maine. Especially when failure means Gerald winds up as kebob.
Now I have to find a killer, help a goat develop an alibi, and figure out if Moose Ridge might be the one place I belong.
