The Painted Veil

Walter Fane, a bacteriologist stationed in Hong Kong, discovers his beautiful but shallow wife, Kitty, is having an affair. His revenge is strange but terrible: Kitty must accompany him to his new posting in remote mainland China, where a cholera epidemic rages.
