Wayne Macauley is a Melbourne writer whose short fiction has been widely published, in Arena, Griffith Review, Island, Meanjin, Overland, Westerlyand other magazines. He is a former winner of The Age Short Story Competition and has appeared in the Best Australian Stories and New Australian Stories anthologies. His debut novel, Blueprints for a Barbed-Wire Canoe,was published by Black Pepper in 2004 to wide acclaim and was includedon the Victorian secondary schools’ VCE English reading list. Hissecond novel, Caravan Story, was nominated a 2007 Readings Book of the Year. His third book, Other Stories,a collection of short fiction, was shortlisted fora 2011 Queensland Premier's Literary Award. His highly acclaimed novel, The Cook,was released in Australia in 2011 and has since been published inCanada, the UK and Turkey. It has been listed a fiction book ofthe year by ABC Radio National,The Australian, Sunday Herald Sun and Readings Bookshop andwas shortlisted for a Western Australian Premier's Book Award, aVictorianPremier'sLiterary Award and the Melbourne Prize Best Writing Award. It won theinaugural 2012 Most Underrated Book Award. His 2014 novel, Demons, was shortlisted for a VictorianPremier'sLiterary Award and was nominated a book of the year by Readings Bookshop and The Australian. His latest novel, Some Tests,has been nominated a book of the year by Australian Book Review and TheAustralian and was recently shortlisted for an AdelaideFestival Award for Literature. Wayne has also worked extensively in the theatre as a writer, director anddramaturg. He lives in Melbourne with his partner, actor andtheatre director Susie Dee. They have one daughter.
