Autumn at Flora's House

(2026)
(The fourth book in the Flora's House series)
A Story by

A mother, a daughter, a granddaughter – with questions to ask and secrets to share

Josie Barraclough visited the Isle of Harris in the 1960s when she was 19. She’s never forgotten her trip, nor the boy she met. Now, almost sixty years later, she returns, bringing her daughter and granddaughter with her. But why has she come back? And how much will she tell them?

Her daughter, Martha, is an empty-nester in midlife. She isn’t sure anymore of her place in the world, but the matching solitude and melancholy to be found in the island both comforts and unnerves her.

And there’s Bea, having a tough time at University, who wonders if a tiny cottage in a remote place with her mum and granny is a good idea at all.

In Harris, the nights draw in, the birds are on the move, the weather brings change to the hills and the sea. But there are fine days too, autumn traditions abound, the gifts of the island are right here – if the Barracloughs choose to embrace them.

a deeply comforting story of connection, self-discovery and hope. As with every book in this series, the true magic lies in the healing power of nature and community: the quiet spell cast by Harris and its islanders.
