The South Kensington Museum has a new name, a grand new future, and a murderer concealed somewhere within its labyrinthine galleries and corridors.
When wealthy antiquarian and collector Henry Althorpe disappears during an evening at the newly renamed Victoria and Albert Museum, no one is immediately alarmed. His absence is unusual, but hardly sinister. Then his body is found in an adjoining building, a place he should never have been able to reach.
Tabitha and Wolf take on the case and soon uncover rumours of disputed antiquities, questionable provenance, and secrets buried in the museum’s past. Yet the most troubling mystery may be the building itself.
The vast South Kensington complex is threaded with forgotten passages, locked doors, and old connections that no longer feature on any plan. Someone knows how to move unseen through those hidden spaces, and that knowledge has already proved deadly.
To expose the killer, Tabitha and Wolf must discover not only why Henry Althorpe was murdered but also how he was taken to a place no one believed he could enter.
