(2022)
A novel by

1940. On the retreat to Dunkirk Alec Moyles promises a dying soldier to deliver a letter to his fiancé. But finding her is not straightforward. The soldier’s family have never heard of her and the Oxford college where she is supposedly a student tells him she no longer attends. Grudgingly he is given her London address, but he finds her flat strangely unused. When shortly after it is destroyed in an air raid, Moyles is left with both the letter and his broken promise.
Nine years later he is informed that the letter had unwittingly led him into a wartime deception and, even though the war is over, he is now drawn into another. One that proves far greater than he could ever imagine. Asked by the sister of a missing SOE agent to decipher her dead father’s papers, Moyles unearths a shocking secret, how SOE agents were shamefully betrayed to further a disastrous Secret Service deception plan.
Now someone in SIS is trying to bury the truth and is prepared to silence anyone—Moyles included—who gets in the way.
