On 29 March 1945, Orwell's wife Eileen died aged 39. Less than six months later "Animal Farm" was published. Eileen's last, long, very moving letters are reproduced in this, the 17th, volume of his complete works. It also includes his defence of P G Wodehouse, essays, articles and correspondence.
