Shame the Devil

(1993)
(A book in the Richard and Amelia Patton series)
A novel by

George Tate, the former Chief Super, recently died in a car accident...

Tragic as the death is, what bothers Richard Patton and his wife Amelia, is why George would leave him all his camera equipment...

The will had read: "To Richard Patton, who will remember our brief period of duty together, and who will know what to do with my photographic apparatus."

What's strange is that the two had only known each other for a period of three weeks.

During those three weeks, however, Richard and George had been investigating the kidnapping of two young children.

The kidnappers had demanded a ransom, which had been pulled together by the investigatory team and a handover organised.
Only things were not going to be that simple...

Something had gone wrong and the suitcase of money was switched, with no sign of the children.

The kidnappers had gotten away, the children presumed dead and the money was missing. The entire investigation had been a disaster.

So why then had George giving Richard all of his photography equipment?

Richard feels it would be best to visit George's widow, Jennie and find out.

Jennie shows them the equipment, in all worth thousands, and talks to the two.

It seems that George is handing over more than just the camera equipment, he is handing over the investigation that was never solved.

Will Richard be able to George proud and discover the truth behind what they had started together?

His search begins with the mysterious "twig" hole in the windscreen of George's van...

Shame the Devil is a chilling mystery filled with twists and turns to keep you guessing.
