Catherine Louisa Pirkis was a British writer who authored numerous short stories and 14 novels between 1877 and 1894. Today, she is perhaps best known for her detective stories featuring Loveday Brooke, one of the first female detective characters in fiction.
Published in book form with the title "The Experiences of Loveday Brooke, Lady Detective," the stories appeared originally in the "Ludgate Magazine" in 1893 (February-July), with the exception of "Missing!" that was added only to the book.
