The year is 1830. It has been seven years since Jehosaphat Walsh left Hagerstown, Maryland after the death of his pregnant fiancee Josephine Rollins at the hands of her brother, Howard. Since then, Jehosaphat has been living among the Oglala Lakota Indians where he is known as Thahu Kiyuwega Wicasa—He Who Breaks Necks.
Respected by both trappers and tribes, Jehosaphat has found a sense of peace living in the Rocky Mountains with his wife, Wind In Grass, and their two daughters, Madaline and Josephine. However, despite being happy and content, Jehosaphat still misses his relatives back east. On the advice of his wife, in-laws and best friend Lucien Rivard, he decides to take Wind In Grass and the girls back east to visit his kin. Little does he know that the blood feud between his kin and that of his late fiancee is not only still going on, but it has gotten worse, almost to the brink of war. Plus Jehosaphat is concerned how his kin will treat Wind In Grass, now pregnant with their third child, and their daughters.
