As a child in the half-savage Windward Isles, Yeyette is given a strange prophecy. This book tells the story of the working out of that prophecy, as the child Yeyette, gay and heedless, grows into Rose, and finally emerges as Josephine, Empress of the French. The author also wrote "Proud Bess".
