Death in the General Ledger

(2026)
(Book 18 in the Maeve Morgan Historical Cozy Mystery series)
A novel by

A missing fortune in whisky. A dead bookkeeper. And a ledger that refuses to balance.

Countess Maeve Morgan has barely unpacked from her honeymoon when an inconvenient piece of unfinished business comes calling.

A sizeable quantity of whisky has vanished from the Strathfulton Distillery.

Determined to discover where it went, Maeve heads to the distillery expecting dubious accounts, awkward questions and, with any luck, a thief caught with their hand somewhere near the till.

Instead, she finds the head bookkeeper dead.

The evidence suggests a simple explanation. Maeve has never been particularly fond of simple explanations.

With Sergeant Clarke attempting to take charge, Agnes Portend ignoring him whenever possible, and poor Kat grieving for a beloved uncle, Maeve begins picking through the distillery's secrets. Everyone speaks highly of the dead man. Everyone seems eager to help.

Perhaps a little too eager.

Then, before the second morning is out, there is another body. And this time the evidence points squarely at someone Maeve would trust with her life.

Now two deaths, a fortune in missing whisky and some decidedly peculiar bookkeeping are knotted together. And the closer Maeve comes to making the figures add up, the clearer one thing becomes.

Someone at Strathfulton has been cooking a great deal more than the books. And they have already decided that Maeve will not be the one to balance them.
