Night Pillow

(1967)
A novel by

It was nothing particularly out of the ordinary. An uncomplicated matter of rape. Well, not really quite that simple. You see, it all happened in a deserted field. There was no question of reporting the crime. Alice's brother confirmed this: after all, it would be impossible to explain exactly why Alice and Malcolm had been in that field in the first place. But then the pregnancy forced the inevitably unwanted marriage. The fact that the child resembled Malcolm not at all was a bitter thing, but it might have ended there had not George recognized his brother's victim and the fact that she was wheeling a pram.
