The Desperate Search

Having found her family in Illinois and come to a new understanding with her stepmother, Hildy Corrigan travels with them to California only to discover some devastating news about her father's promised job. Hildy's hope of helping find a "forever home" for her brother and sisters is shattered as they join the thousands of migratory workers with no money and no available jobs. Sneered at and called "Okies," the Corrigans pitch their tents under a lonely bridge among other destitute families. How will they find a way to survive?
