The Order says everyone who obeys can go home. Wade Cobb has seen what its idea of correction leaves behind.
Every person carrying his steel now has a name on a Warden's list. A capital marshal has sealed his forge and summoned his bearers to a public re-assay, and the town that learned to believe in a rankless smith is about to find out what that belief costs.
So Wade goes where the Order can't follow. In Rhya's forbidden range he builds a forge from cold iron, charcoal and whatever the wilderness will give him, and starts making protection faster than anyone thought a single smith could. Kestrel hides her people. Sevrine risks her greys to learn what the Order keeps sealed. Aurelie takes their case to the one woman who can stop the marshal, and who may choose not to. Maren counts every name that will have to stand in front of the frame.
The assize is coming. Good steel won't be enough. Wade has to break the rule everyone was taught never to question, in public, and bring them all home.
