Leaving her thriving jewelry store and her social life behind for a trip to northern California is not the way Ellen Nickleson would have chosen to spend the summer, but feisty Naomi Brookfield has broken her arm, and Ellen is the only family member available to lend her proud and enigmatic grandmother a helping hand. When a charming older gentleman and his grandson appear on Naomi's doorstep, Ellen gets a rare glimpse at the woman behind Mrs. Brookfield's regal facade. Grandma furiously refuses to see the sentimental Gerald Holt, to obvious dismay, and since neither of the older folks is willing to confess their mutual history, Ellen and handsome Josh Holt are left to piece things together on their own. A tiny piano charm on a frayed ribbon and a faded photograph tell them that half a century ago, love in the air. For Ellen, these romantic memories speak of promise: Maybe they'll inspire Josh.
