The Bawdy Bride

(1995)
A novel by

Determined to make the best of an arranged marriage to Lord Michael St. Ledgers, a man she has scarcely met, intelligent, resourceful Anne Davies has her plate full dealing with an ancestral manor, two children, and an enigmatic husband. However, the estate is also home to sinister goings-on, and Anne soon becomes involved in life-threatening pursuits. An appealing heroine, a hero who develops quite nicely, and a wide-ranging cast of characters (including a balloonist uncle) add to this well-researched, humorous, but occasionally dark historical set just prior to the Regency period. Readers of Scott's work (Highland Fling, Pinnacle, 1995) might also enjoy books by Roberta Gellis. [Scott lives in Folsom, Cal.]
