One pencil. One loser. Everything he draws becomes real.
The pencil is Merlin's Wand. The most powerful arcane artifact ever created, transformed, hidden, and lost for a thousand years. It ended up inside a crystalline ore slab in a dwarven forge in Ironhallow. And the Wood Elf who cracked it open can't draw for shit.
Cael "Craith" Mirethyn is broke, with soot in his ears and nothing in his future. He draws a dagger, and it comes out lumpy and dull. He draws a sandwich, and it's grey, tasteless, and stops existing in his stomach after twenty minutes. The pencil turns drawings into reality. His drawings are terrible.
A desperate gamble lands him at Veylcrest Academy, where he has to actually learn to draw while hiding the fact that his ‘metalwork’ is really just a pencil with bite marks in it. His best friend Sam, a clay sculptor with a tongue sharp enough to cut glass, helps him keep the secret. Cloëth Lamoure, an ice-eyed architectural prodigy from three centuries of builders, falls for his talent before she learns what's behind it. And back in Ironhallow, a copper-haired dwarf foreman's daughter who threw rivets at him and called it flirting is still waiting.
But a rival is keeping a ledger. The numbers don't add up. And the closer Cael gets to mastering the pencil, the more dangerous it becomes to own the most powerful artifact in history when you're nobody from nowhere.
Devil in the Detail is fantasy slice-of-life with a found-family harem, an underdog who earns his power one anatomy lesson at a time, and a magic system where the only limit is how well you can draw.
Genre: HaremLit
