Ride On, Sister Vincent

(1994)
A novel by

Dark, grey dilapidated buildings, leaking rain - Sister Vincent's first impression of St Agnes in the Pasture convent is hardly inspirational. But then to straight-laced Mother Margaret Aloysius, her nuns and three teenage girl pupils, the new arrival is something of a sight herself in silver wellies and pink glasses, a box of tools under her arm. The Lord, it seems, works in a mysterious way indeed - sending a dynamic, globe-trotting teacher of motor mechanics to a school that barely has electric lighting, never mind a car. The discovery of an ancient bike in the barn, however, gives Sister Vincent and the run-down school a surprising and exhilarating kick-start! And for the three pupils its a real education.
