‘He can be difficult and very demanding,’ Nina, the personnel lady, said as our interview wrapped up.
I smiled. ‘After working for Mr. Honeycutt, anybody else would be a pussycat.’
Naturally, the billionaire worked high enough in the clouds that my ears popped on the elevator ride up. It wasn’t too late to get out of this, my inner devil reminded me. I could still fall out of my shoes and twist an ankle.
After a knock on the corner office door, she led me inside. ‘Miss Newton is here about the PA opening.’
Vincent looked up from his desk, obviously surprised, and stood. ‘Ash?’
Our gazes collided, and the attraction I thought had died out long ago flared to life. The tabloid pictures didn’t do him justice. The boy I’d known in high school had grown into a sinfully hot specimen of a man.
‘Vince?’ I made myself sound surprised. I should have sprained an ankle. This was going to be so much harder than I’d imagined.
After an interview that was mostly catching up, he announced, ‘You’re hired. How soon can you start? I need somebody I can trust more than anything.’
The clock was ticking.
Three weeks.
Only one of us would survive this.
The other would be ruined.
