The hero is Vaclav Capkova, a Czech pilot based in Britain. They become close, but at the end of the war he returns to his homeland and the fiancie he left behind. However, things have changed and Vaclav can't forget Sally, who finds herself feeling the same. Unhappy with the Communist regime, Vaclav plans to steal a plane, and escapes to meet up with his old love.
