When Fannie Johnston, a 22-year-old Salvation Army cadet, pulls a young girl from the clutches of a Bisbee mining tycoon and accidentally shoots him, she is suddenly propelled into headlines of the local paper and becomes the center of an old-fashioned newspaper war. The Salvationist, set in Bisbee, Arizona, in the late 1880s, is loosely based upon historical events surrounding a group of well-intentioned missionaries that tried to change the course of events in the old mining town.
