My troubles begin when I wake from a perfectly good nap to discover our pet flap on fire. Someone has tried to burn down Odelia’s house—and according to Dooley, the culprit may be a member of our own family.
Before we can get to the bottom of that alarming development, a masked vigilante calling himself the Germinator starts cleaning up the streets of Hampton Cove. He ties criminals to lampposts, sprays them with disinfectant, and disappears before the police can catch him. The townspeople think he’s a hero. Uncle Alec thinks he’s a menace. And Gran thinks her Neighborhood Watch could use a man like that.
Then Harley Glad, a devoted fan of the German band Turbo Heartthrob, is found shot dead in his hotel room. A priceless guitar has vanished, an obsessive collector tops the suspect list, and Harley’s frightened little dog, Pippy, may be the only witness.
With Odelia busy training at the police academy, Chase saddled with an unexpectedly enthusiastic new partner, and Gran tearing around town in an armored truck, it falls to Dooley, Harriet, Brutus, and me to separate the heroes from the villains.
But when the investigation points dangerously close to home, we’ll have to move fast. Because this killer has already struck once—and some heroes are only villains wearing better costumes.
