The head trauma surgeon found me crying on the floor of a supply closet with an ice pack on my bruised arm.
This morning, my ex walked into the ER and grabbed me by the arm in front of the whole staff.
He yanked me so hard that my elderly patient fell to the floor beside us.
Then my boss, the head surgeon, stepped between us and said, "Let go of her, or I will break your hand."
My ex left without a word, and I spent the rest of my shift smiling at every nurse like they hadn't just seen the worst part of my life.
When my shift ended, I grabbed an ice pack from the break room and hid in the supply closet.
The door opened a few minutes later, and my boss was standing there in his scrubs. His eyes dropped to the bruises on my arm.
I stood up too fast and backed into the shelves, and his hand caught my waist before I hit them.
The second he touched me, I grabbed onto his scrubs, and he wrapped an arm around my back and held me as I cried into his chest.
His mouth brushed my hair as his voice dropped to a low growl,
"You've been so strong. Now let me handle him."
