The billionaire Chief of Surgery just woke up from a three-month coma with severe amnesia.
And the only person he remembers is me.
I walked into the hospital to pick up my final check, and I was sneaking past his room when chaos erupted.
A frenzy of doctors and nurses sprinted down the hall, the OR's most feared doctor was finally awake.
I watched his family and the hospital board swarm the room, desperately asking if he recognized any of them.
He ignored them all.
Instead, his eyes locked onto mine through the glass.
My blood ran cold. I wasn't even supposed to be here.
The crowd abruptly parted as his raspy voice commanded the room, "Why are you in the hall? Come here."
Trembling, I stepped up to his bedside, fully expecting him to yell or scream at me.
Instead, his hand shot out and his fingers wrapped possessively around my wrist, pulling me gently against the bedrail.
His eyes softened with a protective warmth I'd never seen on his ruthless features.
"Everyone get out," he murmured, his thumb brushing my racing pulse.
"I want to be alone with my wife."
