Star Trek's Captain Kirk is back with another fast-paced Tek adventure featuring detective Jake Cardigan! Jake's partner, Sid Gomez, has always liked the ladies. In fact, he's married four of them - and remains on good terms with them all. So when Sid's second wife, Jill Bernardino, calls him to say she's in trouble Sid is concerned. Jill had her problems with the drug Tek during their marriage, and not all of Sid's memories are happy ones, but he can put that aside - especially when Jill vanishes immediately after her call for help. In her frightened call to Sid, Jill mentioned her work on a screenplay about the life of Sonny Hokori, one of the most infamous TekLords, and an enemy to Jake from way back. Jill also mentioned Garret Devlin, inventor of the Devlin gun, a secretive industrialist long suspected of underworld connections. Officially, Devlin died in an accident four years ago, but his body was never found. Jake and Sid expect that Walt Bascom, their boss, will be unhappy once he hears that they want to take time to work on a personal case. But Bascom surprises them. A highly placed government source has offered to pay for proof that Garret Devlin is still alive, and to raise that amount substantially if Devlin is found.
