Becca Montgomery put her life on hold when her father died. She left college, gave up her dreams of traveling, and returned home to Wyoming to run the Lazy M ranch and raise her younger stepbrother and stepsister. Now her stepbrother is graduating from college, and Becca looks forward to sharing with him the responsibility of the ranch and to resuming the life of travel and education that she gave up years ago.

Josh Randall is a man with a past that includes a marriage of convenience that ended in divorce. He has no illusions about love, and all he's looking for is employment as a ranch foreman when he meets Becca. When Becca's stepbrother chooses a life away from the ranch, Becca hires Josh to take his place and discovers the rugged cowboy has far more to offer than she had hoped.

Despite the instant attraction Josh feels, he's determined to keep their relationship strictly business but soon learns that even the best of plans can be sidetracked by love. But Becca's dream is to travel and see the world, while Josh's dream is to put down roots and build a ranch of his own. With a sexy stepsister determined to snare the handsome new foreman, her own mixed feelings about sharing the responsibility of running the ranch after being the sole boss for so long, and her struggle to come to grips with emotions generated by the first man she's ever truly wanted, Becca has a lot of growing to do. Josh, too, has demons to face as he tries to leave the scars of the past behind and find a way to reach a future with Becca.

McMahon has created a strong emotional plot and well-developed characters with a Wyoming ranch country setting that rings with authenticity.
