There was always one question that bugged Bill Bishop. What turned Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart from a man interested in teaching to a career military hero? Using the power of the Laughing Gnome, Bill travels back to the 1950s to find out...

At twenty-two years of age, all Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart wants to do is graduate and become a maths teacher. Unfortunately, he is quickly conscripted for National Service. Making the best of it, he hopes for an easy posting, to do his two years and return to teaching. Alas, following basic training, there is something of a snafu and he finds himself shipped out to Korea.

And so begins a journey that leads him to a meeting with Lieutenant Spencer Pemberton, and a fateful trip to Geoje Island. It is safe to say, after these events, Sapper Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart's life will never be the same again.

A brand new adventure featuring Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, as played by Nicholas Courtenay in the classic era of Doctor Who. Based on characters created by Mervyn Haisman and Henry Lincoln.
