After my wife's death, I struggled to keep from drowning in my grief and extra responsibilities. Her family was convinced I had her killed, my son's illness worsened and I spent most of my days wandering the world as a lost man.
When I force Mathias into our lives, everything changes. The house is less empty, I forget what being lonely is and he feels like the missing piece I never knew I was looking for. He fights me constantly. Tries to run away every chance he gets. In between all the I hate yous and threats, he also wants to be my good boy.
He spends his free time volunteering and raising money for charity. I'm a trained killer and the son of a crime lord. We come from two different worlds. Yet I can't help but feel we were always meant to meet in the middle. I doubt we'll be able to continue as we are without consequences but his smiles and the way he calls me Daddy makes me want to do whatever it takes to keep him where he is.
