GEMMA
This summer I’m figuring out what I’ve been doing wrong with my home brew and making a batch worth drinking, even if the only people who taste it are my best friends, the women I run Green Mountain High with. The problem is that science has never been my strong suit and any time something goes wrong, everything goes wrong. There is one person who could help meKeaton Shawbut the only reason I know him is because he’s best friends with my brother.
Not only does Keaton teach science at the high school, but I know he makes his own home brew. I’ve never tasted it, but my brother raves about it. Keaton could help me, but that means I’d have to ask him. And being close to Keaton makes it difficult for me to hide my crush on him.
The only people who know are my besties. At least, I think that’s the case. I’ll just have to work on my acting skills right along with learning about brewing the perfect pint because this is the summer I contribute something more to the business. Not just for my friends, but for me. I just hope I can go back to how things were after.
KEATON
Summer is when I get the chance to feel like a scientist instead of just a teacher. I get to hypothesize, experiment, analyze the variables; the conclusion is a beer that I’ve made with my own hands, some knowledge, and a little patience. How it all turns out? That’s the fun of it.
The last person I expect to ask me about making a home brew of their own is my best friend’s little sister. Gemma has always been a fixture in my life, but lately I have to remind myself, more than I should need to, that she can never be mine. If I could say no to helping her out, I would, but it would be more suspicious if I refused.
As I spend time with the woman I’ve avoided for years, everything seems to click into place, and I know she’s meant to be mine. She thinks I want to keep her a secret, fearing how her brother is going to react when everything comes out. He'''ll have to get over it because I’m not letting her go. By the end of summer, she’ll know everything she needs to know about making a home brew for her business and I’ll have the woman I’ve always craved in my arms for good.
