August Thomas is from rural New England. At age eighteen, after graduating from UMass Amherst with two BAs and the 21st Century Leader’s Award, the university’s top undergraduate honor, she studied in Ankara on a Critical Language Scholarship. She returned to Turkey as a Fulbright Scholar. She holds Master’s degrees from Bogaziçi, Istanbul’s top public university, and the University of Edinburgh and has also worked as a travel writer. She wrote her first novel, Liar’s Candle, at the age of twenty-five.
