Feminism has made deep inroads into contemporary consciousness. Both a social movement and an ideology, it is composed of so many different aspects and shades of opinion that a simple definition, acceptable either to everyone who calls herself feminist or to the casual observer of the scene, it is difficult to formulate. The Encyclopedia of Feminism is an attempt to create a complete definition.
