Tiny Pascoe stood talking with the postal clerk who had just handed her a letter. “Now you noticed, Tiny, that came all the way from Silver City in only three days. Mail sure is getting faster, don’t you think?”
“It sure looks like it. I’ll see you next week.” She walked out to the wagon where Joel was waiting.
As she climbed in, she said, “I’m glad we came for mail. This is a letter from Becky Stillman. We haven’t heard from her in a good while.”
As they headed home, she opened that letter. “Good Lord!”
“Good Lord what?”
“Becky said the stage came in shot full of holes but only the guard was aboard and no bodies. Her husband Franklin is missing and Wells Fargo has a two-thousand-dollar reward for any information. She wants Casey and Travis to come and find him. The boys will want to do something about this, being friends and all. Dear Lord, what she must be going through, over in Silver City alone. She said not to let her folks or his know until he is found, dead or alive.”
