In the village of Long Dene, bestselling crime novelist Roger Tempest is reported missing by his staff.

Believing his disappearance to be voluntary, his literary agent calls in famed private investigator, Trevor Lowe, to track him down. But when Tempest's body is found dumped at the roadside eight days later, it quickly becomes clear a killer is on the loose.

With the police focusing their investigation on Richard, Tempest's impoverished brother and heir to his vast fortune, Trevor Lowe nonetheless remains unconvinced. But when another murder is committed, the stakes are raised and Lowe must use all of his powers to solve the case before the killer strikes again...
