She was found dead in her bedroom, despite the police cordon around her hotel and private detective Lionel Crane being stationed outside her room during the previous night. A fabulous pearl had been stolen, ripped free from the silver chain around her neck, which also showed bruises, suggesting strangulation. But then it was discovered that she had died from arsenic poisoning...
