Murder in Manuscript

(1963)
(Book 15 in the Robert Budd series)
A novel by

The murder of a mysterious recluse in Barnet supplies Mr. Budd with one of the most intricate and difficult cases of his career.

What was the connection between Jonathan Haines, the murdered man, and the typist who was also murdered? Mr. Budd, with the assistance of Bob Hopkins, crime reporter on the Messenger, and the melancholy Sergeant Leek, succeeds in piecing together all the scattered fragments of the puzzle, but not until the stout superintendent has suffered the most terrifying experience of his life.

This story has thrills interwoven with the humour that Gerald Verner has made essentially his own. You won't be able to lay this book down, once you've started it, until you've reached the solution.

Gerald Verner (1897-1980) was the pseudonym of British writer John Robert Stuart Pringle. Born in London, Verner wrote more than 120 novels that have been translated in over 35 languages, and many of his books have been adapted into films, radio serials and stage plays. Verner also wrote forty-four Sexton Blake tales.
