AN UNPUTDOWNABLE POLICE PROCEDURAL SET IN THE ATMOSPHERIC YORKSHIRE TOWN OF WHITBY.

On the bleak winter solstice, brooding clouds loom over Whitby. The townsfolk unite for the annual tree lighting ceremony, but someone has a sinister agenda.

The next morning, Sergeant Riddle arrives at DCI Frank Miller’s apartment with shocking news:
Local resident Samantha Thompson is dead.

Her body was discovered in the chapel graveyard with a crow laid upon her chest and inverted crosses carved into her feet.

The night of her murder, Miller and Samantha had shared a few drinks at the pub.
Given the circumstances, DS Riddle has no choice but to suspend Miller from duty.

Miller refuses to let his name be tarnished. Determined to clear his name and catch the real killer, he embarks on a covert investigation.

What was Samantha doing in the graveyard that fateful night? And what is the meaning behind the cryptic symbols etched into her flesh?

Can Miller crack the case before it’s too late?

This utterly thrilling crime mystery is perfect for fans of L.J. Ross, Roger Silverwood, J R Ellis, J M Dalgliesh, or Ann Cleeves.

THE DETECTIVE
Detective Inspector Frank Miller has a reputation as the youngest Chief in the force’s history. He eschewed the Graduate Training Scheme in favour of working his way up from the bottom – and this status can make him a little officious. His features are round, his hair – flopping despondently on his shoulders – dirty blonde, and his eyes bright blue.

THE SETTING
The small coastal town of Whitby is split in two by the River Esk, which runs from the North Yorkshire Moors into the town’s harbour, where it joins the North Sea. This natural divide has created two sides to town, linked by a swing bridge. The new side is largely Victorian, glowing with visitor attractions. The old side is home to the cobbled alleyways and dark fog banks that give the town its ancient charm. There, at the top of the 199 steps, are the foreboding Abbey ruins – their ghostly outline hanging above the town.
