The Letter in the Umbrella
(2026)(The fifth book in the Kit Calder Files series)
A novel by Kira Wren
Series note: KiT! is also published in multi-book compilation editions.
Aoi Fujita came to New York carrying eighteen old postcards from a man her grandfather once helped in Shizuoka.
Almost every one of them contains an umbrella.
Thirty-seven years earlier, Arthur Renshaw was caught in a storm in Japan. Haruto Fujita gave the stranded American shelter, tea, a dry shirt—and a blue umbrella Arthur accidentally carried all the way home to New York.
The umbrella never came back. The postcards did.
Now Haruto and Arthur are both gone, but the cards Aoi brings to One More Chair seem to contain a trail neither family ever finished following.
Maya wants to help her closest friend find out where it leads.
For once, Kit Calder may have to resist taking over.
Their search moves through old photographs, neighborhood shops, archives, forgotten addresses, and a friendship that somehow survived decades, oceans, bad weather, and extremely slow correspondence.
THE LETTER IN THE UMBRELLA is a warm New York mystery about friendship, memory, and the strange little promises people keep long after they stop expecting an answer.
KiT! — Book 5
Genre: Cozy Mystery
