We’d only just entered Ion Sector when I was rudely woken up by an incoming message. And that was the highlight of my day.
Henley Steele seemed to take great delight in telling me that he was on his way to the Lady Elizabeth to speak to me. The Bellshorium on Danveria had hired him as an independent adjudicator to determine whether or not they had to pay me the billion plus credits I’d won in their casino.
But Henley’s reputation preceded him. Everyone in the galaxy knew that he always ruled in favor of the big companies and planets that employed him. I knew before I even met the man that I would never see a single credit from my win. Our brief encounter when he first arrived left me in even less doubt, so I wasn’t looking forward to our interview the next day.
After everything that had happened to me so far on this trip across the galaxy, I shouldn’t have been surprised when I opened the door to Henley’s temporary office and found him dead behind his desk. I probably shouldn’t have been surprised when Jonathan told me to stay out of the investigation, either. But for this murder I’m the number one suspect. So I’m not going to sit around and wait for Shawn to find the killer. I’m going to do everything I can to find the person who ended the life of one of the galaxy’s most hated men.
And my little helper bot, Kimi, is going to help. Or rather, Kimi was going to help. Until a security virus it stumbled across when it was somewhere it shouldn’t have been has it questioning its own rogue code. And now I'm on my own working to prove that I’m Innocent in Ion Sector.
