Death and Betrayal Under the Big Sky
(2025)(The first book in the Trails of a Restless Bounty Hunter series)
A novel by Bill Yenne
Bladen Cole rides into Gallatin City, Montana Territory on the morning after the violent murder of two of the town’s most prominent men, and the wife of one of them. As word gets around of the presence of a bounty hunter, the town’s banker, Isham Ransdell, a partner of the two murdered men, sends for Cole and hires him to bring the killers to justice.
Why can’t the law go after them? Well, the local sheriff was killed in his initial pursuit, and the villains are riding hard toward the edges of any lawman’s jurisdiction. Soon they will cross the foreboding Marias River, and as everyone will tell you, there is ‘no law north of the Marias.’
Cole rides into that lawless wilderness north of the Marias, only to face a surprise attack from a grizzly, and to find himself in the midst of a war between rival Blackfeet bands and all this before he even sets eyes on the outlaws!
A riveting adventure . . . you won’t want to put it down. Unlike many western adventures, Bladen doesn’t have a sidekick or partner, but if he did, I would sure love to play that part! Jerry Puffer, KSEN Radio (Shelby, Montana)
‘Bill Yenne’s Death and Betrayal Under the Big Sky is a master class in western story telling. Taken from the simple Good vs. Evil theme, Yenne spins a tale where the plot twists and turns at every fork in the trail. Set in the wilds of Northern Montana, bounty hunter Bladen Cole is hired to track down four men wanted for killings in Gallatin City. Wanted dead or alive. Dead is much easier, but Cole wants justice just as much as he wants the reward. He believes they must be able to testify for justice to be served. With outlaws escaping and hired guns trying to prevent their return to Gallatin City, Bladen Cole must navigate the Blackfoot country north of the Marias River, wilderness trails, and the treachery of men, to see justice done.’ Lane R. Warenski, bestselling author of the ‘Frontier Scout’ series
Bill Yenne is the award winning author of more than three dozen nonfiction books on historical topics and a dozen novels, including two series of Westerns with DSP. He grew up in the Rocky Mountains of western Montana, where he spent a great deal of time on horseback in the rugged backcountry. He is an active member of Western Writers of America. The Wall Street Journal notes that he writes with ‘cinematic vividness.’
Genre: Western
