In the dead of night, a shadowy figure emerges from the darkness of a Pennsylvania house - and British journalist Karen Parkhurst vanishes without a trace.

Broke and already up to his neck in trouble, ex-SAS soldier Simon Doakes is hired by Karen’s MP husband to head to the United States and find her.

What begins as a missing-person case soon turns bloody.

Karen had been investigating Caleb Ward, a powerful American senator pushing a dangerous trade deal between the United States and the United Kingdom. As Doakes digs deeper into Ward’s world, the bodies begin piling up around him. Federal agents, mercenaries and hired killers all seem desperate to stop him uncovering the truth.

Then, from deep within the wilderness of northern Nevada, comes Barefoot, a savage predator and sadistic hunter hired to silence anyone searching for Karen Parkhurst.

But Barefoot has plans of his own.

Now Doakes must head into a brutal landscape of abandoned ranches, dead mining towns and endless desert to bring Karen home alive.

Out there, the hunters know the land better than he does.

And before long, Doakes discovers he is no longer the hunter.

He is the prey.
