After the death of her fiance, a racing driver, in an accident, Sue Nightingale found herself the target of hurtful criticism and gossip. It was whispered that, by jilting him and sending him brokenhearted to his death, Sue was responsible for the tragedy. But not even to justify herself in other people's eyes would Sue would reveal the truth-that Johnny had jilted her, for another woman. Shunned-or so she imagined-by her workmates at the factory where she was the industrial nurse, Sue found that her only friend was the new Welfare Officer, Glen Fraser. Her gratitude to him soon turned into love-but then she found there was an insuperable barrier between them.
