'Science Fantasy' was a unique British magazine blending science fiction and fantasy, edited for nearly a decade and a half by John Carnell. It closed half a century ago, and then sprang back briefly to phoenix life in paperback format.
Under the editorship of Kyril Bonfiglioli it retained the rational fantasy favored by Carnell and blended it with the ever-changing sophisticated whimsy of Brian W. Aldiss, Thomas Burnett Swann's tones that evoke a younger, half-magical world old enough still to be nostalgic about a more golden childhood, the stylistic explosions by J.G. Ballard.
In early 1966 Bonfiglioli changed the title of his relaunched magazine to 'Impulse' and then to 'SF Impulse'. Other hands took the helm, especially those of Keith Roberts, author of the influential novel 'Pavane'. Promising newcomers found a home here, often with their first stories: Josephine Saxton, Brian Stableford, Christopher Priest, Robert Wells, Chris Boyce.
This anthology brings together ten stories chosen by award-winning Australian writer and theorist Damien Broderick, and American lawyer and critic John Boston.
