Story:
The story starts on a rainy day in London. If only Dick hadn't worn his classic Mackintosh raincoat and stood sheltering in the doorway of the old down-at-heel detective agency in an area of London where dubious characters lurked. If only the spokes of his umbrella hadn't jammed. He wouldn't have been struggling to get his brolly up, and the damsel in distress wouldn't have mistaken him for a gumshoe.
Donna wanted to pay him in cash to find out if her husband was cheating on her with a floozy.
But he couldn't take her money, especially as he wasn't a private detective. Since finishing with the nightclub work, he'd been at a loose end as to what career path to aim for. Going back to the fish and chip shop wasn't an option. He was done with that deep fat fryer forever. And he'd needed to disappear after all the trouble he'd got himself into at the nightclub - going up against Mickey Finn hadn't been a wise move.
Maybe this woman was fate pointing him in the right direction. He was on the wrong side of thirty, and the urge to settle down and make something of himself was creeping up on him. Wild nights out paled in comparison to the thought of coming home to a wife and a homemade dinner with real mashed potato.
And so begins his venture into the dark side of the city - and a whole new life as a private detective unravelling the web of lies and deceit that surrounded him.
