When Hubert Clagg, the unpopular manager of Fairway Flats is found murdered, one of the tenants, 78 year-old Mrs. Emily Dibbett, found it necessary to call on the local vicar to let him know that she wasn't the murderer. The Reverend Jabal Jarrett was puzzled by her visit, and after more deaths at Fairway Flats, he was drawn into helping the police with their investigation.
