A lone stranger parachutes onto the desolate Morayshire coast under cover of darkness. He is alone in a foreign land with a job to do and he is expendable. Travelling under the name Ivor Goodman, he makes his way south.

A humane and simple man, consumed with a hatred of war born of childhood years amid the devastation of his native country, there is no doubt in his mind that Sir Guy Freeman must die to ensure the peace and security of the world, even at the expense of his own life.

As he travels to the town in the Midlands to meet his destiny, Goodman finds himself in an unfamiliar world, filled with people who don't resemble the westerners he has been conditioned to expect. When he meets good-natured Margery, a nurse in a Home, he is forced to consider the possibilities of a life he never imagined.

Barlow's interplay of goodness and evil, with the tragedy of man's betrayal by false ideals, makes The Man With Good Intentions with its intrigue and paranoia, one of Barlow's most impressive novels.

'A glorious ideological cops-and-robbers. It is strong, heady stuff right down to the wonderfully satirical finish.' - Eastern Daily Press

'Every character is sharply drawn and the details are accurate and vividly seen.' - Sheffield Telegraph

'I have nothing but admiration for Mr. Barlow's tale.' - Wolverhampton Express

'There is the excitement of a thriller intermingled with the human interest of a romance. The tang of the book lingers long after reading.' - Weekly Scotsman
