War + Money + Sex = BETRAYAL!

Greed, lies and treachery from trusted companions leads to death and disaster.

In the midst of the Vietnam war, Anthony Brister, blue-blooded scion of a prominent Connecticut family and captain of a US Navy Swift boat, is murdered in a village in the Mekong delta. A friend of the victim, the senior advisor of a South Vietnamese junk force base, is ordered to investigate but is unable to solve the crime. Lt. Peter Walker's romantic liaison with Madeleine Chi, the main suspect in the shooting, does not help his credibility as an investigator and he is relieved of his command and 'encouraged' to resign his Navy commission.

Many of the principals in the murder intrigue end up in southern California 15 years later when Brister's sister uses her family's political contacts to press for closure to the cold case. Walker finds himself embroiled again in an episode he would as soon leave forgotten. His unofficial but crucial role in a resurrected investigation charges his life with new energy, and he finds he is enjoying both the drama of the search for a killer from ages past and the evolution of the people he once knew when he was a Mekong Junkman.

Walker uncovers a scheme involving Madeleine, a notorious junkman named Van, blackmail, murder and possibly treason. Then it's a race to the finish: can Walker solve the case before the murderers get to him?
